Approximately six seconds after we see the light of the day as newborn, we take our first breath and start our respiration. Afterwards, oxygen is, by priority, the most important elixir of life.
Without this valuable gas, nothing runs. If required, we can forego fluid for days, nutrition even for weeks. But if we stop breathing, we will not survive even the few minutes, that are required to read this product description.
We breathe approximately 12,000 liters of air daily. This equals the volume of 75 full bath tubs. To prevent anybody from accidentally forgetting to breathe, our body fulfils this task on its own. Breathing runs quasi automatically.
Thus, hardly being recognized, up to 18 times a minute air flows through the nose or the mouth and the throat in the air pipe, which is approximately twelve centimeters long. It splits up in the end, so that one pipe leads to the left lung and one into the right one. These pipes are our bronchial tubes, which further split up in the lungs, like the branches of a tree, into ever more delicate ramifications and thus create a sophisticated tubular system, which is responsible for transporting air. At the end of these ramifications the alveoli reside, which are bundled like grapes. Here the most important part of respiration takes place, because oxygen can transgress through the delicate membrane of the alveoli into the bloodstream and thus supply our brain, our heart, and our whole body.
Their minuscule size of only a fifth of a millimeter of each alveolus is compensated by their sheer number: Fitted with 300 to 400 million alveoli on average, the lung of an adult provides the respiratory surface of ten table tennis tables. No other organ has such a large surface with constant environmental contact like the lung.
This of course makes it and the connected bronchial system highly sensitive, because with every breath, also dust and pollutant particles, pollen, mite excretions, or pathogens like bacteria and viruses enter it; at 43 percent of men and 30 percent of women in Germany, this is accompanied by regular innumerable clouds of cigarette smoke.
All this can overstrain the self-cleaning function of the lung and thus it is sensible to support your respiratory organ’s health. And this is exactly what our product “Lung” does. With a plant formula, which is worldwide unique and which features the mullein (Verbascum) as core ingredient. This plant from the Scrophulariaceae family does not need to be crowned, because it has excellent credentials since the antique, when it comes to supporting the upper and lower respiratory organs. Even commission E, a commission of scientific experts for plant-based medications of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte; BfArM), attests the mullein effectivity with regard to positively influencing lungs and bronchial tubes. Thus, mullein is said to be expectorant, sputum-promoting, and anti-irritating effect. Further mullein is suspected to be anti-inflammatory and to combine certain anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects. The holy Hildegard of Bingen even considered mullein a gift from god, which would be very helpful in case of lung diseases, bronchitis, and coughing.
Other plants in our formula, which have a synergetic effect in combination, offer a similar broadband efficacy spectrum like mullein. So also elecampane, sage, and coltsfoot have been used in case of lung diseases, congested respiratory passages, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and dry cough since antique.
Due to their antibiotic and antispasmodic effect, they are reputed as the perfect plants, in order to widen respiratory passages and relax the bronchial tubes. The coltsfoot, which was by the way awarded Plant of the Year 1994, is furthermore suspected to have a positive effect in case of silicosis. It can additionally support the vital alveoli’s health.
The same applies to the flavonoid apigenin from the thyme plant, which additionally exerts an relaxing effect on the nervous system and therefore can be very helpful in case of spasmodic cough attacks. Furthermore, apigenin is known as mighty weapon against general catarrh.
So obviously, our product Lung really unites the “Who is Who” of the botanical world, when it comes to lung health. And the extraordinary power of plants for health is known for centuries now. Even modern medicine uses this knowledge and meanwhile developed the strongest medications for various purposes from plant extracts. Our product Lung is, of course, no medication and therefore also has no side effects. But it also contains the most important lung substances as extracts, because they are always higher concentrated than conventional plant powders.
Furthermore, our formula is finished with organic compounds, like the amino acids N-acetylcysteine (NAC). NAC is long since used for mucus dissolution in case of different challenges to the respiratory system. But this extraordinarily effective amino acid is also said to generally have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. This is interesting, because the lung often produces mucus in case of an infection. Additionally, bacteria emit sticky substances, which firm up the mucus. The immune system can hardly reach the bacteria in this tough mucus. N-acetylcysteine, however, can loosen the mucus layer and allows the immune system to successfully fight the bacteria.
The anti-inflammatory properties of NAC primarily refer to oxidative stress, which, for example, is created by smoking. This was recently shown in the large international IFIGENIA study; its results were published in the “New England Journal of Medicine”.
Let us stick with studies and research. Meanwhile, there are innumerable, very interesting research results to many plants. Including, for example, garlic. Alone the National Library of Medicine lists over 4,000 scientific studies, which prove the health effect of garlic.
What only few know is, that this tuber can also influence the lung positively. The cause are the contained sulphuric substances allicin and alliin. Both are suspected to stand up to bacteria and viruses in the lung—sometimes even better than chemical antibiotics. Furthermore, the tuber facilitates the removal of mucus, which our lung uses to free itself from pollutants. Whoever does not like the odor of the smelly germ-killers, will be pleased with our lung formula, because the sulphuric substances contained in there are odor-free.
Allicin can also be found in the queen of vegetables: the onion. The plant from the Allioideae family also has many others, very valuable components, like quercetin, the best-studied flavonoid today. Therefore, we know nowadays, that quercetin works like an antihistamine and has anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects. Because it can alleviate inflammations in the respiratory passages and the lungs and inhibit allergic reactions to pollen, it contributes to the mitigation of hay fever, sinusitis, and asthma.
What many might not know is, that allergic reactions are responsible for the most symptoms of asthma and even for the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Therefore, quercetin with its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties can offer a major contribution to the respiratory passages’ health. Furthermore, this flavonoid is said to generally have an antithrombotic effect, i.e. that it can prevent the agglomeration of blood platelets and prevent the formation of thromboses.
The specific phytochemicals of onions (e.g. quercetin) are so beneficial to lung health, that there is even a saying: “An onion a day keeps lung cancer away.” Even if there is no final scientific proof, we are so convinced of the quercetin’s relevance, that we included it as pure extract and as onion extract in the Lung formula.
Generally, the formula of our lung product is an actual novelty. Not only does it support in multiple ways the health of the upper and lower airways, no, it also contributes with many other substances, among others, to a normal transport of the oxygen from the lung to the body.
